Flying speedway bike hit me – but I’ll still be going trackside

0 Comments | Scunthorpe Evening Telegraph, Jul 20, 2010 | by David Elliott

A SPEEDWAY fan has vowed to be back cheering on the Scunthorpe Scorpions in their next meeting just days after being hit by a flying bike.

Mick Sneesby, 62, of Vicarage Lane, Scawby, was one of two spectators to be injured after visiting Stoke rider Taylor Poole lost control of his bike during the meeting, at the Eddie Wright Raceway, on Normanby Road, Scunthorpe.

The machine flew off the track and over safety fencing before hitting Mr Sneesby and another spectator, who had travelled from Hull.

Mr Sneesby was taken to hospital but escaped with a bruised hip and legs. And despite the experience, he said he would be back at the track to watch the Scorpions take on Newcastle this Friday.

He said: “It is just one of those things that happened. I’m okay, just a bit battered and bruised and I will be there on Friday night, all being well.

“It is just one of those things that happen out of the blue.

“I have been going for years and that is the first time I have seen a bike come over like that.

“It was a freak accident. I just didn’t see the bike coming.”

Mr Sneesby said the drama played out during the 10th heat of Friday’s meeting.

He said: “It was the first and second bend from the start

The day after the event, send them a reminder to visit your site to pick up their free gift! My friend Tom Antion’s site ? http://www.netofficetoolbox.com/app/adtrack.asp?AdID=37477 ? offers tons of advice and resources on speaking for exposure and profit.

    ___ 14. Postcard Mailings

One of the most overlooked tactics in today’s marketing world is the humble postcard. Postcards are a fast, easy, and reliable way to increase visitors to your site. Best of all, they’re the ideal way to break through the online clutter and get your prospects’ attention! For a failsafe, step-by-step postcard marketing plan, look to my own marketing mentor, Alex Mandossian. He offers a wonderful tutorial package called Marketing With Postcards (www.marketingwithpostcards.com).

    ___ 15. Sheer Shamelessness

If you live in the Los Angeles area, there’s a good chance you’ve seen “EzineQueen.com” whiz by you at speeds in excess of 70 m.p.h. Why? It’s emblazoned across the back of my black SUV in large, lime-green letters! At least once a month I get a friendly e-mail from someone who saw my giant URL and, out of curiosity, visited my site.

New Vauxhall service aimed at fuel efficiency

0 Comments | Evening Times; Glasgow (UK), Jun 11, 2010

VAUXHALL is applying ecoFLEX thinking across its range with a new Fuel Efficiency Service.

Available for all Vauxhall models, the ecoFLEX Fuel Efficiency Service addresses aspects of a vehicle which can contribute to unnecessary fuel usage.

Driving with underinflated tyres is a very common culprit, so all four corners are adjusted to the correct pressures and inspected for signs of abnormal wear. To ensure wheels are turning freely, brakes are checked for binding and wheel bearings for play and vibration.

To keep the engine running freely, its filter is changed and the oil replaced with the highest grade of lubricant.

Also included is a fuel system clean and a check of the air conditioning – which can be a drain on efficiency if it’s not running optimally.

The ecoFLEX Fuel Efficiency Service costs pound(s)99, or pound(s)29 if done along with your car’s regular service. For more details visit http://www.vauxhall.co.uk

Instead of masking their problems with a substance, they will be better able to focus on solving problems more appropriately to meet their needs.

    Social

implications are huge when one decides to quit their addiction. Family life often finds a balance; marriage/relationships are better able to be healed with the chance of developing a healthier and satisfying union. There comes a point where the individual can mend broken relationships they?ve created with parents and/or siblings, as well as with friends and/or co-workers. There is a greater opportunity to meet new friends; enjoy a wider range of social activities; take the opportunity of spending more time with family in a social setting; and improve work productivity.

    Charity wins free city office

    0 Comments | Express & Echo; Exeter (UK), Feb 2, 2010

A COMPETITION to win six months’ free office space at Forsyth@The Senate has been won by the South West branch of the children’s medical charity Sparks.

The prize donated by Forsyth Business Centres includes furniture, IT and telecoms, business rates, cleaning, reception and telephone answering services. Sparks regional fundraiser Nicole Rolfe was delighted to move into the offices in Southernhay Gardens.

“As I previously worked from home, which can be quite isolating, it’s great to be with other businesses,” she said.

“The offices are fantastic and everyone there is very friendly.

“Having this office space will make such a difference to the way I work and allow me to bring in volunteers to help me raise the profile of Sparks in the South West.”

While spinning is generally regarded as a low-impact form of cardiovascular activity, it can also be quite rigorous, especially for newcomers who are not accustomed to such a workout.

However, because spinning does not require tremendous athletic coordination, it is starting to catch on with a wider variety of workout fanatics.

But unlike many aerobics classes, spinning does require a small fee to participate.

7 Things you might have missed this week This week

    0 Comments | Winnipeg Free Press, Jan 17, 2010

    Igloo you

Driving in Winnipeg in winter is not a picnic at the best of times. Now a new road hazard has been uncovered: flying igloos. A third of drivers fail to properly clear their windshields before putting their pedal to the frozen metal. And at least as many ignore the mound of snow on the roof of their vehicle, according to the Canadian Automobile Association. A driver in Illinois recently had to have reconstructive surgery after a rooftop igloo broke free and plowed through their windshield. Bet they never had this kind of trouble when commuters of the far north got to work by dogsled.

    Cold comfort

Winter driving aside, a University of Ottawa professor is out to prove that cold is actually our friend. The good, if somewhat sadistic, prof dresses volunteers in a special suit and chills them for two hours. Blood tests show folks in the shiver suit produce a high level of the hormone adiponectin — something that helps protect the body from diabetes, cancer and heart disease. Remember this next time your are waiting at a windswept bus shelter for a late bus. Because of the cold, you might live longer, allowing you to enjoy even more such near-death experiences.

    Dam shame

The Beaver, one of Canada’s most venerable magazines, has changed its name. It seems porn surfers were becoming increasingly frustrated when they found themselves peering at Canadian history rather than Canadian… well, you know. Of more concern to the Winnipeg-based publication was the fact that many couldn’t even get The Beaver’s e-newsletter because it was being spam-filtered out. The new name of the mag is Canada’s History — a bit less colourful, but a lot less likely to take on a new, unforeseen meaning a few decades from now.

    Everyone’s a critic

James Cameron’s movie Avatar is a box office smash, but that has not deterred its critics. Conservative bloggers decry its anti-militaristic message, others say the movie contains racist themes. Even the Vatican is giving the movie two thumbs down. Pope Benedict XVI has warned against equating human beings with other living things in the name of a ‘supposedly egalitarian vision.’ He warns that is just a step away from pantheism and neo-paganism. We’ll leave that argument to the philosophers. We’re just waiting to see what the Blue Man Group has to say.

Is that a condom in your pocket…?

Cabbies in Brandon are not only concerned with getting you home safely, they want to be sure you stay safe even behind closed doors. ABC Cabs and Tasmanian Taxi both agreed to provide their frisky fares with free condoms. They are stocked in a holder shaped like a blue-jeans pocket in the back seats. One driver said couples getting a bit touchy-feely in the back of his cab is quite common after the bars close. Since most stores are closed at that hour, you can help yourself to a free rubber while the driver burns rubber to get you home before things get out of hand

Others, however, will not be so lucky. All it takes is one adult in a position of authority to ruin the chance of getting that internship your child wanted or that job they applied for after finishing grad school.

In this new era of technology, it?s becoming increasingly difficult to keep our privacy under control. Don?t let your children compound the situation by making mistakes that will come back to haunt them when they become adults.
